NIST FIPS Level 2 certification bears rigid requirements, including AES 256-bit encryption. The core technology used by MyLaptopGPS Encryption™, which includes AES 256-bit, is FIPS Level 2 certified as part of MyLaptopGPS Encryption Pro. However, please carefully note that FIPS certification does not apply if a product has been "modified" from the original certified version. The standard MyLaptopGPS Encryption™ product uses a derated key to encrypt the encryption tables using AES 128-bit, which provides a very secure encryption product at a reasonable price point. This does not cause an essential degradation of security—the result is not a "less secure" encryption, but this does mean that the standard MyLaptopGPS Encryption™ software is not FIPS Level certified (though the "Pro" is). The FIPS Level 2 certified "Pro" version also bears restriction on sales, imposed by the U.S. Government, and can only be sold in accordance with respective government regulation. Customers requiring strict FIPS Level 2 certification, including applicable U.S. Federal customers, will need the "Pro" version. All other customers, requiring the same essential "level" of security, may use the standard version.
